General Winder, commander of the Department of Henrico, Richmond, Virginia, writes to Captain Pearce (possibly James H. Pearce). Discusses a pass "signed by McCuffins chief of Police in the possession of a man named McMullin." Reports that McCuffin's name was misspelled, and that after investigation, "the pass turned to be a yank forgery." One bust engraving of Winder included as collateral.

Pearce served in General Henry Alexander Wise's brigade.
