Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Possibly created in Urbanna, Virginia. Colonel Pickett verifies an invoice of ordnance and ordnance stores he turned over to William C. Fleet, Captain of Company B, 55th Regiment, Virginia Volunteers. Lists ordnance and ordnance stores. Includes what appears to be water damage, including a small hole, which has been repaired, in the center of the document.

Pickett became a Confederate brigadier general in January 1862.
