Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes that he has been home on leave and has just returned to the army. Notes he is in a new regiment, "Company A 54 Va. Reg. Vol." Does not believe the men in his new company are as wicked those in the old one. Mentions that they came to Tulahuma through Georgia and Alabama by train.
