Marked "Copy" on p. 1. This is Calder's agreement to the bond mentioned in GLC 2794.169. Notation on verso: "Certified Copy," and in a different hand: "Delivered original to Mr. Calder & Recd from him a Deed dated 31 Decr. 1817."

Know all men by these presents, that I James Calder, of Georgetown in the District of Columbia and held firmly bound to Tobias Lear Esquire of the City of Washington in the District aforesaid in the Sum of Sixteen thousand dollars, currently money of the United States to be paid unto the said Tobias Lear his executors, administrators and assigns, to which payment, well & truly to be made, I lend myself, my heirs, executors, and, administrators, jointly & severally, firming by these presents, sealed with my seal located this first day of September and thousands, eight hundred & fifteen. -
Whereas, he, the said James Calder has to gain & [illegible] unto the above named Tobias, the following lots & parts of a lot of ground lying & being in Square numbered by hundred & fifty-nine in the city of Washington aforesaid- namely-Lot number Eleven-Let number Twelve-Let number thirteen & the [illegible] half of Lot number Fourteen, the whole as originally laid off on the [illegible] plan of the Said City together with the houses & altar improvements therefore & also the privileges & appurtenances thereunto belonging or appertaining, reserving nevertheless out of the same, a twenty- fed wide-alley heretofore laid off by the late Samuel Davidson decreased, for the purpose, by him intruded, all which said property (except the half part of the lot aforesaid, the space occurred by the said alley) was purchased from Lewis L. Davidson by the aforesaid James Calder, which said property he the said Tobias Lear has [illegible] to pay rent to the aforesaid James Calder, the Sean of Eight thousands dollars as fellows - Two thousands dollars cash immediately in hand, the receipt which is hereby acknowledged, -- Two thousands dollars in Sixty days for which he has passed his note payable to the said James Calder or order, negotiable at the Bank of Colombia, -- Two thousand dollars in two years; for these two last payments, he the said Tobias Lear has passed his to several Bounds to the said James Calder, with interest which said note & Bound all [illegible] equal date herewith = Now the condition of this obligation is such, that if, ( on the two payments of the said note & Bonds & note before) the said James Calder, his heirs, executors or administrators do & shall well [illegible] convey rent the said Tobias Lear, his heirs or assigns, or to such other person or persons Their heirs, as the said Tobias Lear shall nominate & appoint & to such uses as he shall direct the whole of the properly hereby sold, or meant or intended to be sold, together with houses, appurtenance & privileges thereunto belonging or in eng wise appurtenance, by a [illegible] of General Warrantee & as far simple, thus shall this obligation be void - and until such convey and shall be made the said Tobias Lear, his Executors, administrators or assign shall have the [illegible] of & receive al the rents & profits accruing on, the said property on any hand thereof.-
