At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Wishes to know why his desire to purchase land in Arkansas and Mississippi should be related to Mr. Moore's actions, and hopes to have the situation resolved soon. On verso, what appears to be Healy's draft of a response, written in pencil. Free frank of Kendall as "P.M.G."

Kendall, one of Jackson's political operatives and a chief member of his "Kitchen Cabinet", was postmaster general at the time.
