At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

William Sare, submitted this account of the wages due to 7 men for their labor on the Brigantine Susanah's voyage from Madeira to New York. On p.2 Sare acknowledges receipt of some of the wages from Coll. Gabriel Minvielle and John Barberie. Docketed on verso.
