At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

P.1 contains the petition of Robert Livingston for the repayment of his salary in Albany. P.2 contains a note in which "Her Majesty" refers the petition to the Lord High Treasurer. This is followed by a note dated 29 April 1704 from William Lowndes stating that the Lord Treasurer has commanded him to transmit the petition to an unspecified individual for review. The remaining 7 pages contain Livingston's petition for reiumbursement.
