Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

First part of the document is a record of the beer and biscuit shipped by Livingston to New London, and signed by William Marsh. This is followed by a note acknowledging receipt of the goods in New London, dated 16 May 1713, and signed by J Shakinmaple. Document marked as a true copy, and was addressed to Robert Livingston. Docketed on address leaf.
