At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

John relates an account of the Generall's [Nicholson] mad and irrational behavior that he heard through a Mr. Mackdowell, a man who stayed with John Borland while the Generall was lodged there as well. John states his belief that the Generall belongs in "bedelem." Docketed on address leaf.
