Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Livingston requests a new commission for serving the offices of Secretary of Indian Affairs, Receiver of the Quit Rents, Town Clerk, Clerk of the Peace, and Clerk of the Common Pleas. He also asks for his salary as Secretary of Indian Affairs, which has not been paid since 8 March 1702.
