Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Receipt for $66 for "timber & planks furnished" on four dates: 2 November 1793, 14 February 1794, 5 March 1794, and 8 April 1794. Indicates that Captain Bryant will forward his receipts for the balance.

Captain John Bryant was the Deputy Commissary of Military Stores at the Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts.
