Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Charles Lee selling land to George Garrett to repay a debt to Dabney A. Miller. Lee owes Miller forty-seven pounds, and is selling off a tract of land through this indenture in order to pay off the debt. Also signed by Thomas Street, John Chowning, and Richard M. Segar. Indenture is attested to and signed on docket by George Healy, dated 24 March 1812.
