Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Ann Lee giving land to her son Charles Lee "in consideration of the natural love and affection which she the said Ann has & bears to the said Charles Lee." Also signed by Philip Montague Jr. and Abraham Montague as witnesses. Docket signed twice by George Healy, attesting to the indenture. Document torn down the middle.
