Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Thanks Hand, a New York City lawyer, for a letter received 21 February. Writes "Naturally I am glad to know that you and I are so nearly in agreement with reference to the constitutional amendment which I have been pressing, and the education bill. I am glad to know your views on these propositions." Written on United States Senate, Committee on Military Affairs stationery.

Wadsworth was United States Senator from New York 1915-1926.
