Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informs his father about the draft commencing in Baltimore on Monday, noting that the "Secessionist dont like it much." States that there have "been two Hospitals broken up in this city the last week or two," noting that his hospital now has 158 patients. Reports that he enjoys his position at the hospital more than he anticipated. Written on stationery with "US Army General Hospital, Newton University, Baltimore" letterhead.

Robert Terry enlisted on 4 June 1861 as a Private. He was mustered into "K" Co. PA 36th Infantry. He was discharged on 27 April 1865.
