Camp at Suffolk, Va. Apl. 3, '63
Dear All, Have been very busy this week making up my Quarterly returns of clothing, camp equipage &c and all this evening I have been devoted to squaring & forwarding my ordanance account. It is now 10 1/2 P.M. & I sit writing while the 103d Rgt N Yk Vols (German) Band discour ses sweet music. They are serenading Col Beach's lady I think: The wind which is quite strong is blowing directly this way & the strains of music are exquisite. They are playing almost exactly the same tunes that Geo. heard when we seranaded Genl Harland. I wish he was with me to hear them to night. I should then enjoy them doubly. I have not written you since last Monday morning & then I think only a short note that I sent by Captain Moore. I hope Capt. M. delivered the money ($370) safely & the package also. Please acknowledge the receipt of it in several letters, I ask this because we fear that part of our mails go west, and I always feel rather anxious about money sent until I hear from it. Recd yours of 30th inst this P.M. wont try to reply to it now. So Geo. is a member of the Loyal League is he? Not a word of news to communicate. I am very well. I inclose photographs of Col Ward & Forrest Spafford. Best Love from Chas -
