Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses Connecticut's progress in raising troops for duty in the Northwest territory and the appointment of officers. Retained copy, as noted on docket. Written as governor of Connecticut to Knox as the Secretary of War.

Huntington was a member of the Continental Congress from Connecticut in 1776, 1778-1781, and 1783. He signed the Declaration of Independence. He served as governor of Connecticut from 1786 to his death.
