Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

sister [Margaret Parrott] Things have been quiet since the Battle of the 23rd, 24th, and 25th as the soldiers are preparing winter quarters. He hopes she will continue school this winter. He is glad he joined the Army when he did as he has only a little over eight months left to serve.
