Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Document contains two copied letters. Both were written in London, England.
The first letter, on page 1, was from Mauger to John Colliers, Charles Morris, Richard Bulkeley, Henry Newton, and Michael Francklin, dated 21 September. The last number of the year has been torn off, leaving just 176. However, the second letter is dated 1763, and this letter was probably written at the same time.
The second letter, on page 2, was from Mauger to William Nesbitt, dated 24 September 1763.
