Dear Sam:
I suppose, or you wrote me, that you will leave tomorrow for Lynchburg Court. I wrote Normie Cosby that you were coming & that they must take good care of you. I suppose you will go to Bedford and spend a Sunday with Willie: you are always welcome there & are a great favorite of Mary. The Times Dispatch of next Sunday will have a letter of mine in wh. I expose the "true inwardness" of Gen. Lee's staff officers. Tell Hugh; also Stockton Teory. Give a copy of it to ? McHowell. If you see Mrs. McDowell tell her to give my love to her mother. I remember her as one of the girls I ever saw. You will probably see John Daniel in Lynchburg. I met him here on the day he returned from Europe. He said he wo. make some speeches for Bryon. John will speak (normally) for Bryon really for John but will pray (like Joe Bryon) for Jaffi election I want to ? last Monday to register as I cant to vote for Taft. I have been looking for the Rev. J. Wm. to ? on me or my book. I have a letter from Major Swift of the Army War College paying that he is preparing a review of my book for the Journal of the United State's Cavalry Association wh. Ought to give it a good send off. The truth is I ? to the book for soldiers & students of military history. I think it will have a permanent value.
