refusal to let Bennet Young write his biography; enclosing copy of Dolly's [Adolphus Richard] biography written by Young [1914].
30 October 1916, Washington
Dear Sam:
Enclosed is a sketch of the operations on Dolly's biography - Bennett Young who wanted to be my biographer, but I wouldn't let him be. If you ever see Dolly tell him that it wd. have ruined Quantrell's expectation to have had his biography written by Bennett, his friend. I don't think I could have survived it & you & Colonel William ought to be glad that he does not mention you in his Life of Dolly. Young's expedition from neutral territory was pirated & he ought to have been healed as a pirate.
Yours Truly
J.S. Mosby

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
