Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses the payment of warranty for rations to be furnished to Captain Zeiglers company. States "The Board of treasury have furnished warrants on Connecticut from which by the assistance of Colonel Wadsworth I am in full hopes that money will be received to pay your account for Supplies to Zeiglers company..." Accompanied by an envelope from 1985 containing a printed image of Knox and four Knox 8 cent stamps from the first day of issue.

Knox served as Secretary of War 1789-1794. After serving in the Revolutionary at various posts, Biddle was United States marshal in Pennsylvania (1787–1793). Biddle was noted for raising the "Quaker Blues" company of militia. Jeremiah Wadsworth was a member of the Continental Congress and a United States Representative from Connecticut 1789-1794.
