Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Sends President of New Hampshire Bartlett copies of "the act for establishing the...permanent seat of the government of the United States" in Washington, D.C. and an act providing for the payment of invalid pensioners (the actual copies are not included). The text of this letter is exactly the same as GLC07668, which is more legible but not addressed explicitly to Bartlett.

Notes: GLC 4675.01 transmits these two acts along with fifteen additional acts detailing the establishment of the federal government, to the Governor of Georgia.
