One photograph of Abraham Lincoln's funeral caisson dated May 1865. Shows the funeral caisson stopped in front of the Clinton Market on a cobblestoned street.

A train carrying Lincoln's coffin departed from Washington, D.C. on April 21, 1865. Headed to Springfield, Illinois, where the President would be buried, the train stopped at various cities along the way so that his coffin could be placed on horse-drawn carriages and led through the streets for public viewing.
