Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Hale heard a sermon by Mr. Allen and thinks the man should have followed up his preaching by urging people to live a religious life as evidence of their faith. He also discusses the session of Congress between the end of December and the 4th of March. He wishes his wife a Merry Christmas.
