Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

States that Henry Jones contacted him (Boyd) regarding an audit in the case of Jones vs. [Brunnik?]. Jones hopes to hold the case at New Hartford. Asks that Holabird respond to confirm the time and location for hearing the case.

Holabird was District Attorney for the State of Connecticut during the Amistad trial. Boyd served at various Connecticut state political posts. He was Representative in the Connecticut General Assembly, Secretary of the State of Connecticut 1859, 1860 and 1861, and town clerk of Winchester for roughly thirty years.
