Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Relates that "the good people in the west valleys have managed to get a town meeting today- unknown to most of the people in our village and have voted to petition to the legislature for an incorporated village or borough extending East to the Great Bridge... you will perhaps use your influence to put a check on the passing of this petition until we have time to remonstrate..."

Holabird was District Attorney for Connecticut during the Amistad trial.
