Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Seeley discusses depositions needed in the case of the United States vs. (Walter) Bradly.

Holabird was District Attorney for the State of Connecticut during the Amistad trial. Seeley, also a lawyer, was mayor of New Haven, Connecticut 1832-1833, and a member of Connecticut state senate 4th District in 1834.
