Also expresses his opinion on the precise changes that the Senate will make to the treaty in order to ratify it.

Dear Sir.
The Senate will, in my opinion modify the treaty, by abandoning forever indemnification - by erasing the second Article - and by the same stroke destroying the old treaty & Convention - they will erase, I think it is the third Article - and insist upon the Insurgente &c - they will insert a proviso that - the Convention shall not impugn existing treaties and that the Convention shall die at eight years old - I inclose [sic] the papers to Mrs. Goodrich - that you may call & see her & read them - Give my respects to Mrs. Twining. I am &c
