Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

This newspaper covers local news from Nashville, North Carolina including an article on the San Francisco earthquake. "Stall Lorain" inscribed on front page. Includes several articles on tobacco farming, the need for farm hands, bias against citylife, and other advertisments from local businesses.

Began in 1895 by Lincke, the weekly Graphic ran for 47 volumes, continued the Dixie Optic, and was continued by the Nashville Graphic in 1941.
