"Army Correspondence" prints a letter from the army evangelist of the Domestic Mission Board reporting on their work and requesting for more copies of the paper to be sent to soldiers. A chaplain reports the revival work in their camp during a quiet time without battle. "Two Things" describes two sins which most beset the soldier: swearing and gambling. "Blockade" examines the current trade embargos and their effects. "Voice of 'Fathers' in Time of War" compares church minutes from previous times of war. "Secular News" includes General Ulysses S. Grant demanding the Surrender of Vicksburg amongst other reports.

The purpose of this journal, according to its first issue, is the advancement of the Baptist denomination in both intelligence and piety, while giving support to the Confederacy. Thousands of copies were distributed to soldiers.
