Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses postal service. Mentions that because of Hobart's motion, the committee on post roads and offices must "inquire into the expediency of discontinuing wholly, or in part, the post rout" and establishing a new one. Gives the history of the route from Plymouth to Plympton and gives his opinion on the matter.
