Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Indicates that he has sent a "proposal to the Commissioners of the Navy, to furnish Cordage." Asks Hobart to help him get the contract by exerting his influence in a letter to the commissioners. Describes his capacity to complete the contract. Notes that Zabdiel Samson is also advocating on his behalf.
