Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

There was a surprise snowstorm and the neighborhood seems "determined to get the interest of the money invested in their sleighs." He has not been sledding yet as he is taking the chance to fill the icehouse. He reports that Anthony is the only member of the family married so far. He corrects Wilmor in a postscript, explaining that his middle initial is E and not W. [Joseph W. is Wilmor's brother.]
