Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes that he has been trying to get Captain Adams' address but hasn't been successful. Expresses his surprise that he and other soldiers have lived to tell stories of what they experienced during the war. Advises Weeks to contact Captain Adams in order to obtain a certificate needed to apply for his pension. Reports on news of other soldiers in the company.
