Signed by P. Ludwell Lee, Captain of Troop G, 10th Cavalry, as a witness. Lists the names of members of Troop G, including their dates of enlistment and discharge, if applicable. Covers the period from 30 April 1872-30 June 1872. Created at Rush Spring, possibly referring to Rush Springs in present-day Oklahoma. A note written across the printed text of the muster roll states that the troop was paid 10 July 1872. Ludwell confirms that the discipline, instruction, military appearance, arms, and accoutrements of the troop are good.

The legendary 9th and 10th Cavalries, known as Buffalo Soldiers, were raised in 1866. Following the Civil War, Buffalo Soldiers were primarily engaged in conflict against Native Americans on the Western Frontier. In 1872, the 10th Cavalry was located in the vicinity of Fort Sill, near Rush Springs, Oklahoma, which was called "Indian Territory" at the time. In fact, the 10th Cavalry were largely responsible for building that fort.
