At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Countersigned by Paul C. Wolman and R.B. Hardy, Jr. Presented to Muth on his fifteenth birthday anniversary by his father, G. Harry Muth. Document explains that each copy of the book in which this document was originally bound is registered in the name of its owner at headquarters and certified by the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Depicts a coat of arms with eagle and includes a raised seal of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Paul C. Wolman was Commander-in-Chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars from 1930 to 1931. R.B. Hardy, Jr. was Adjutant General of the same organization.
