Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Last Will and Testament. Jackson leaves a presentation sword to his son to use " In support of our glorious union and the constitutional rights of our beloved country" and various other swords to family members. With Secretarial copy of a subsequent Will dated 1843/06/07. Written from his mansion at Hermitage.
