Reports the results of the 1860 Presidential election, announcing Abraham Lincoln as President and Hannibal Hamlin as Vice President. States "Our returns indicate, however, that the next Congress will be in opposition to the republicans." Includes a report that the secession movement action of South Carolina's legislature will be postponed until the following day. Contains a detailed report regarding the election in each New York voting quarter.
James Gordon Bennet founded the New York Herald in 1835, and continued to serve as its publisher until 1872, after which his son assumed publishing duties. The Herald merged with the New York Sun in 1920, and the New-York Tribune in 1922.
