Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Diamond informs Estelle that she has "kept a warmth and happiness glowing within [him] to which [he] shall be eternally grateful." He writes that "war news over in the European theater sounds encouraging - Very encouraging -" He states that he hopes that they "can get this mess over with in another two years or so - "
