Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Written at 5:00 PM at the office. Sylvia complains she has too much work to finish. Mayor can't believe the backlog in cases so has sent in the Herlands Committee to review the records. Has a ticket for the play "Tomorrow the World" but will only enjoy it half as much without him.

"Tomorrow the World" - Broadway play (made into a motion picture in 1944) (1943-1944) depicting a young German boy from Hitler Youth who comes to live in the US, and is dissuaded from Nazism by his uncle.
