Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Moe writes a short account of a typical day, from 2 to 4 he rests, then has dinner, he returns at about 6 and writes a letter or two and then plays gin with Marty. From 10:30 until 6:30 am he works.
