Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Moe writes that their long association has certainly influenced their channels of thought. He asks where the newspapers are that he requested Sylvia send him (the PM and NY Times). He enjoyed his recent Thanksgiving dinner immensely. He also mentions that he hasn't been to visit Mr. Shapiro because he's staying with Myron Ackerman and he doesn't want to bother Ackerman. He is surprised because he didn't know that Ethel Kross was in the hospital.
