Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One letter from Leonard Eugene Graeff to Susan Prowell Graeff and Raymond James Graeff dated November 22, 1944. Leonard has sent his Christmas cards out, forty-eight in total. He received letters from Lorraine Fencil, Melvin Fencil, June Walter, Ed Zell, and Dot Runk. He also received a box form June, but was informed that was only part one and to expect something else. He reports that Rosalina Fencil is not doing well. He mentions the civilian clothes business.
