At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One trading card from the Red Menace collection, "18. General Walton H. Walker" consists of a portrait of General Walton H. Walker. Reverse side contains propaganda narrative regarding background information of Walker, the commander of the 8th Army. Text details his death on December 23, 1950 due to a jeep attack by a South Korean army truck.

Walton Harris Walker was a United States Army four-star general who served World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. He was killed by a South Korean truck that swerved out of the line.
