Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One trading card from the Red Menace collection, "48. Doughboy's General" depicting a portrait of Omar Bradley in his military uniform with an American flag in the background. Reverse side contains propaganda narrative describing the position that General Omar Bradley serves as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, his involvement during World War II, and veterans' affairs.

Omar Nelson Bradley was a general of the U.S. Army during World War II and also served as the first Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Korean War. His responsibilities consisted of planning a successful deployment of the American forces into Korea.
