At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One pamphlet entitled, "Bretton Woods is no mystery" written by Joseph Gaer dated 1945. Bretton Woods is an agreement to end Word War II decided by 44 countries from the United Nations. It includes plans for a monetary system, similar to a credit union, and a non-competitive bank.
