At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One issue of "Decision," edited by Klaus Mann dated 1941. Publishes reflections on politics, technology, philosophy, education by notable writers such as Aldous Huxley, W. H. Auden, and Jean Cocteau. Mann's editorial letter states that they do not wish to create "another Ivory Tower," and will criticize from the perspective of philosophy and poetry.

This first issue was printed in January 1941.
