Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One letter from "Morris B." addressed to Arthur Ruhl dated December 30, 1922. Expresses his joy in Ruhl returning to the United States. Morris admits not wanting Ruhl's job responsibility as administrator. Follows up on his academic pursuits, travelling over the summer in Europe, and invites Ruhl to Ithaca on his way to New York from Chicago.
