Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One bound volume of the periodical entitled "Puck" dated April 16 1884 to April 22, 1885. Each issue contains three colored political cartoons. Most of the political cartoons concern the upcoming presidential election and James G. Blaine and the Mulligan letters. The issues also contain other humorous cartoons concerning fashion, social norms, and other current events.
